Many of our patients receive multiple to hundreds of units of blood -everything from platelets to packed red blood cells to plasma products, so really, if youre a regular blood donor, you could be saving the lives of these critically ill individuals, she said. When you wake up, you feel a little stiff, maybe a little sore like you slipped and fell on ice, DeLuca said. Its mild discomfort, more than anything, and really, its worth it if you can save someones life.
At home, Emma is gaining weight and will soon start a lower dose of chemotherapy. Her mother observed that the 14-pound girl, who will turn one on Aug. 23, is small but feisty.

Canadian Blood Services OneMatch is a member of an international network of registries, which means the harvested stem cells of Canadians can be shared anywhere in the world.
By joining the registry, you may never be selected or matched with a donor, but it really increases the odds of finding a match for patients and gives hope to these milies -something that they desperately need, DeLuca said.
